Craig Myra nominated PC candidate in Halifax Armdale

HALIFAX – An Armdale resident and longtime public educator is running for Tim Houston’s Progressive Conservatives in the next provincial general election.

Craig Myra became the Progressive Conservative candidate for Halifax Armdale when nominations closed August 22, 2024.

“Working in and around the classroom for the better part of 20 years, I have seen the positive difference that Premier Tim Houston and his PC team have made,” said Myra.  “The previous Liberal government, with Zach Churchill as Education Minister, fought with teachers and parents, with students caught in the middle.  We can’t go back to the chaos of the Liberal years.  We need to keep fixing what previous governments broke and continue building up with Tim Houston.”

Born and raised in Halifax, Myra is a married father of three children. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree at Saint Mary’s University, his Bachelor of Education degree at Acadia University, and his Master’s degree in Education at Mount Saint Vincent University. Myra has been a school principal within the Halifax Regional Centre of Education for the last 13 years.

In 2017, Myra was named one of Canada’s Outstanding Principals while he was principal at Chebucto Heights Elementary School in the constituency of Halifax Armdale. In addition to his education experience, Myra also worked at Saint Andrew’s Recreation Centre as a program developer and after school program supervisor for 12 years, prior to becoming a teacher.

“Craig Myra is exactly the kind of MLA I need as part of my team,” said Premier Tim Houston.  “Craig is a proven leader – connected to the community, caring about the kids in his classrooms, committed to his co-workers.  He will give the people of Halifax Armdale a strong voice in a government that’s building up Nova Scotia and helping our people reach new heights.”

Tim Houston’s PC team has also delivered record investments in healthcare, housing and tax relief to Nova Scotians, while strongly opposing the Liberal carbon tax.
