Churchill Not Transparent About Sneaky Carbon Tax Cost

HALIFAX - Today, Nova Scotia Liberal leader Zach Churchill called for more political transparency but refused to be honest with Nova Scotians about his sneaky carbon tax.

“Liberals say they oppose Trudeau’s carbon tax,” PC candidate Barb Adams said. “But they want to bring a sneaky carbon tax to Nova Scotia.”

Churchill is proposing a cap-and-trade system - a price on carbon by another name. According to government figures, Churchill’s sneaky carbon tax would drive up the cost of gas by as much as 26 cents per litre by 2030.

“Churchill’s plan will cost Nova Scotians an extra 26 cents per litre - he doesn’t care about making life more affordable,” said Adams. “He’s trying to force a sneaky tax on Nova Scotians to please the Trudeau Liberals.”

Adams said it would also result in millions leaving Nova Scotia. Under the cap and trade system proposed by Churchill, Nova Scotia businesses would need to buy emissions allowances from California and Quebec.

“Churchill’s sneaky carbon tax would take tens of millions from Nova Scotians and send it to California and Quebec,” said Adams. “Zach needs to come clean with Nova Scotians and be transparent about the real cost of his climate plan.”
