Claudia Chender’s Parachute Club includes South End Seven

DEBERT, N.S. - Voters in seven Nova Scotia constituencies have NDP candidates from South End Halifax to vote for in this year’s provincial election.

According to Elections Nova Scotia records, seven Nova Scotia NDP candidates live in Halifax Citadel-Sable Island, although none are running in that constituency.

“No wonder it took 10 days for Claudia Chender to leave Halifax Regional Municipality – that’s where most of her ’south end seven’ candidates live.  In fact, more than 12 per cent of Nova Scotia NDP candidates live in a single constituency,” said Colchester North candidate Tom Taggart.  “Only Tim Houston is running a province-wide PC Team with candidates  who have strong connections to their local communities and will make it happen.”

The seven NDP candidates live in Halifax Citadel-Sable Island:

  • Argyle NDP candidate Lauren Skabar

  • Clare NDP candidate Dre Taylor

  • Digby-Annapolis NDP candidate Shannon Long

  • Eastern Shore NDP candidate Don Carney

  • Halifax Armdale NDP candidate Rod Wilson

  • Halifax Atlantic NDP candidate Cathy Cervin

  • Truro-Bible Hill-Millbrook-Salmon River NDP candidate Cailen Pygott

“The problem with parachuting candidates into rural ridings is that they don’t understand the issues or our way of life,” said Taggart.

In addition to having candidates with no community roots, Chender’s NDP has struggled with other candidates.  Kings South NDP candidate Ramona Jennex is a proven classroom cutter who the Nova Scotia Teachers’ Union called to be fired when she was Education Minister.  Sackville-Uniacke NDP candidate Lisa Blackburn is a defund police activist at a time when Nova Scotians are concerned about public safety.
