STELLARTON – The outgoing Mayor of Stellarton is poised to become the PC candidate for Pictou Centre in the next provincial general election.
Danny MacGillivray was acclaimed as the Progressive Conservative candidate for Pictou Centre on Friday, September 6.
“Tim Houston’s government has worked hard on the big issues and is producing results and fixing what was broken by the previous Liberal government,” said MacGillivray. “My goal is to be part of Tim Houston’s team, where the decisions are being made, to build up Nova Scotia. Our current Pictou Centre MLA, Pat Dunn, has been an inspiration to all of us and we owe him a big thank you for all he’s accomplished for Pictou Centre.”
As Mayor of Stellarton since 2016, MacGillivray delivered greater transparency by making the Town of Stellarton the first municipality in Pictou County to livestream council meetings and catalogue them online. As Executive Director of CHAD Transit, MacGillivray led the relaunch of Pictou County Transit after a 25-year absence, with 4,000 people a month now using the service.
MacGillivray has also been a dedicated community volunteer, serving as founding chair of the Pictou County Fuel Fund, founding chair of Pictou County’s chapter of Habitat for Humanity and founding chair of the Pictou County Affordable and Supportive Housing Association.
“Danny MacGillivray has been a strong leader for Stellarton and all of Pictou County,” said Premier Tim Houston. “The people of Pictou Centre are fortunate to have someone of Danny’s calibre step up as Pat Dunn prepares to leave public office.”
Tim Houston’s PC team has also delivered record investments in healthcare, housing and tax relief to Nova Scotians, while strongly opposing the Liberal carbon tax.
