DARTMOUTH, N.S. — News that New Brunswick Liberal Premier Susan Holt is working on a “made in New Brunswick carbon tax” shows that Zach Churchill will introduce his own sneaky carbon tax to make life worse for Nova Scotians.
Following a meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last week, during which Trudeau expressed excitement about having a Liberal to work with, Holt confirmed that she would be submitting a carbon tax made in New Brunswick for the Trudeau Liberals to approve.
Churchill said he spoke with Holt two weeks ago about bringing forward an Atlantic carbon tax.
“Zach Churchill supports a carbon tax and Justin Trudeau. Nova Scotians can’t afford a sneaky new carbon tax from Zach Churchill,” said Dartmouth East PC candidate Tim Halman. “Instead of supporting Nova Scotia’s Still Better Than A Carbon Tax plan, it is clear that Liberals like Zach Churchill will stop at nothing to do what Justin Trudeau wants and inflict a carbon tax on Nova Scotians.”
Nova Scotia is one of the few provinces in Canada to have already met the Paris Accord's greenhouse gas emissions targets. The Trudeau Liberals have repeatedly rejected plans submitted by Premier Tim Houston and Environment and Climate Change Minister Tim Halman to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions without imposing a carbon tax.
As Nova Scotia Liberal Leader, Zach Churchill has been a Trudeau Liberal mega-donor, giving more than $5,000 to the Liberal Party of Canada since 2022.
“Only Team Tim Houston can be counted on to fight climate change without a carbon tax,” added Halman. “Zach Churchill is all about helping Justin Trudeau and delivering a new carbon tax by teaming up with other Trudeau Liberals.”
