Kent Smith, a community builder and successful entrepreneur, is the Progressive Conservative candidate for the constituency of Eastern Shore.
“I am a lifelong resident of the Eastern Shore and I understand the area’s great potential,” Smith said. “Tim Houston has a vision for a prosperous province that includes the Eastern Shore. I am very excited to be part of his PC team.”
Born in Sheet Harbour, Smith earned his Bachelor of Commerce degree at McGill University and returned to manage the family business, Eastern Shore Cartage. In 2015 he sold the business and the following year co-founded the Senior Solutions Development Group Limited, a company focussed on improving the quality & quantity of housing options along the Eastern Shore.
After a move to Musquodoboit Harbour, Smith immersed himself in the community, as a founding member of the local Chamber of Commerce and Civic Affairs, and as a driving force behind the Musquodoboit Harbour Community Development Plan. He served as President of the Chamber from 2017 until 2020.
Since 2019, Smith has been a member of the School Advisory Council for Eastern Shore District High School, as well as the Foyer-École Committee at École des Beaux-Marais in Porters Lake.
“I am watching the site selection process for the new Eastern Shore District High School very carefully,” Smith said. “I intend to ensure the Liberal government listens to the people of the Eastern Shore, so the school meets the needs of the families who live here.”
PC leader Tim Houston welcomed Smith to the Progressive Conservative team and praised him as a tireless community advocate.
“Kent Smith knows and understands the Eastern Shore,” Houston said. “He will be the community’s voice at Province House, not the other way around. Kent will be a great MLA.”
Smith lives in Musquodoboit Harbour with his 8-year-old daughter Maia and their dogs, Beau and Zeke.
