Zach Churchill revealed his sneaky new carbon tax and nearly $1 billion in government spending today during the release of the Liberal election platform.
“We know Zach is a Trudeau megadonor,” said Shelburne PC candidate Nolan Young. “Now, we see a platform centred on bringing a sneaky carbon tax to Nova Scotia - purely to please Trudeau.”
The Liberal platform promises to make life more affordable by introducing a nearly 30 cent per litre carbon price.
“You cannot tax gas, cannot tax farmers, and cannot tax food distribution while claiming to make life more affordable,” said Young. “Zach claimed this is a contract with Nova Scotians, but the author of this contract is Justin Trudeau.”
Young said Churchill’s plan will require nearly $1 billion in cuts.
“We know Zach’s past is full of cuts and austerity - cuts placed on the shoulders of Nova Scotian students,” said Young.
When a minister in past Liberal governments, Churchill oversaw cuts to:
-
The Early Literacy Support Program, meaning less specialized instruction for students in Grades Primary to 3 who are struggling to learn how to read.
He was also part of the cabinet that:
-
Oversaw cuts to long-term care
-
Implemented tax hikes
-
Froze government spending, allowing inflation to eat away at services
-
Cut the Environmental Home Assessment
-
Eliminated the Graduate Retention Rebate
And this is just the tip of the iceberg.
“Zach’s attempt to buy your vote will cost our province dearly,” said Young. “Our tax cuts are possible without big cuts; Zach will have to eliminate nearly $1 billion in departmental expenses to implement his platform.”
