MacArthur nominated PC candidate in Sydney-Membertou

SYDNEY – Longtime Sydney business and community leader Brian MacArthur will be the Progressive Conservative candidate in Sydney-Membertou in the next provincial general election.

“Sydney-Membertou deserves a voice in government who will deliver for the people of this constituency,” said MacArthur. “Premier Tim Houston and his PC team have made progress fixing what the previous Liberal government broke. As the Houston team is focused on building up Cape Breton, we need to make sure that Sydney-Membertou has an MLA that can get to work and make good things happen for our community.”

As regional director of Cape Breton Business College (CBBC), MacArthur is carrying on a legacy of more than 65 years that first started under his father’s ownership when the institution opened in 1958. With five locations today in Sydney, Halifax and Dartmouth, CBBC has graduated more than 25,000 people. As a volunteer, MacArthur coached girls’ hockey in Cape Breton and across Nova Scotia and served as a longtime volunteer with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Cape Breton County.

MacArthur and his wife Leslie are lifelong residents of the Shipyard in Sydney and have two adult daughters who are working as nurses.

“Brian’s lifetime of experience serving the community and helping people build their lives through education is exactly the kind of MLA I need as part of my team,” said Premier Tim Houston. “Sydney-Membertou should have an MLA in government and I respectfully invite the good people of this constituency to give Brian MacArthur the chance to bring home results as a member of our PC team.”

Premier Tim Houston’s PC team has delivered record investments in health care, housing and infrastructure, including a new medical school at Cape Breton University. The Houston PCs also provided tax relief, while at the same time fighting against the Liberal carbon tax.
