Premier surprised NDP refuse his offer to take questions on trade

Premier Tim Houston is surprised that Claudia Chender refused his offer to stand in the Legislature for four hours and take questions from any and all members of the Legislature on the Trump Tariffs.

Today, the NDP wrote a letter to the Premier requesting that he appear at the Committee of the Whole House on Supply (Budget Estimates) to discuss trade. The NDP had asked for the Premier to come and answer questions and the Premier agreed to immediately appear - shockingly, Claudia Chender then refused.

“Ms Chender has been grandstanding that she wants committees and task forces established to discuss the tariffs but given the chance to question the Premier in a public, televised format she passed.  It is hard to comprehend,” said Scott Armstrong, MLA for Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley.

Canadians have been aware of the threat of Trump tariffs for months, if tariffs were a priority for Claudia Chender’s NDP, they would have taken this opportunity to spend four hours questioning the Premier.

“After weeks of the NDP attempting to spin a narrative that the Premier avoids questions by refusing this opportunity the NDP have been exposed for what they are,” said Armstrong. “It has become clear the NDP are not interested in real discussions, only political theater.”

It is clear that after writing to the Premier and asking him to appear and then refusing to allow him to appear that the NDP letter was just a cynical stunt.
