BROOKFIELD, N.S. - Former Justin Trudeau Member of Parliament Scott Brison announced his intention to return to politics, possibly to replace Liberal Leader Zach Churchill.
In a video endorsing the Liberal’s Kings South candidate he stated:
“But someday WHEN I return to politics, I will want someone like Mike Hamm on my team and I hope you elect him to be on your team as a good MLA for Kings South.”
Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley PC Candidate Scott Armstrong says this is a clear challenge to Zach Churchill’s leadership.
“There can be no doubt that there is a Liberal uprising against Zach Churchill’s leadership,” said Armstrong. “Liberal Party insiders are already planning their leadership bids.”
“I served as a Member of Parliament alongside Scott Brison. He doesn’t say anything that he doesn’t mean,” added Armstrong.
Scott Brison was involved in Iain Rankin’s government as the leader of his Economic Growth Council.
Armstrong says that this video raises questions of why Nova Scotians should trust voting for Zach Churchill’s Liberals when his party is already planning for a future without him.
Armstrong pointed out that nearly half of Churchill’s caucus decided not to re-offer before the writ.
“Losing nearly half your caucus is a leadership review for Zach,” said Armstrong. “The message is clear.”
Armstrong also pointed to two of Churchill’s hand-picked candidates as further proof Liberals are fleeing Churchill’s team en masse:
-
Zach convinced former Green Party leader Thomas Trappenburg to run for him after publicly complaining about losing two MLAs to the Nova Scotia PCs.
-
He also convinced failed CBRM mayoral candidate Joe Ward to run, even though Ward called Churchill a “frat boy.”
“Liberals are sending a clear message - they don’t want Zach as leader,” said Armstrong. “If Liberals don’t trust him, Nova Scotians can’t, either.”
