Melissa Sheehy-Richard will be the Progressive Conservative candidate in Hants West in the next provincial election.
The 46-year-old daycare owner and minor hockey mom was acclaimed on September 2, 2020.
“I am very excited to be part of Tim Houston’s PC team,” Sheehy-Richard said. “Tim’s vision for the province includes strong rural communities like ours and increased opportunities for the people who live in them”
Expanded opportunities for active living, more housing for seniors, a dialysis unit for the Hants Community Hospital and a vibrant local economy strengthened by the agricultural sector are among Sheehy-Richard’s top priorities.
“Melissa cares about the people in her community,” said PC leader Tim Houston. “As an MLA she will represent the views of her constituents in Halifax, not the other way around. That’s what the people in Hants West deserve.”
Sheehy-Richard noted that her late great-uncle Hon. Gerry Sheehy was a dedicated constituency MLA as well as the Minister of Health. She said she will follow his example and make her constituents her top priority when she is elected.
Melissa and her husband Todd have three sons, Luc, Maguire and Brody. She is a member of the new regional municipality’s Municipal Climate Change Action Plan Committee and a member of the Windsor Area Advisory Committee. She is also a long-time volunteer and board member of West Hants Minor hockey.
