Auditor General calls on RCMP to investigate NS Liberal cover-up Auditor General calls on RCMP to investigate NS Liberal cover-up

Today the Auditor General called on the RCMP to investigate the NS Liberal Party for a cover-up over misuse of public funds.

The Auditor General report details how, for years, the Liberal Party did not cooperate in the investigation into the misuse of public funds by the Liberals and that “considerable time and resources were spent dealing with this lack of compliance.” The report considered the delays by the Liberal Party “an obstruction” to the Auditor General’s ability to investigate.

“The Auditor General has revealed the Liberal Party’s dishonest culture of cover-ups,” said Nolan Young, MLA for Shelburne and Vice-Chair of the Legislature’s Public Accounts Committee. “Zach Churchill is now shifting blame onto Stephen McNeil and Iain Rankin despite initially refusing to cooperate with the Auditor General. Nova Scotians deserve answers on how public funds were stolen under the Liberal Party’s watch.”

Liberal Leader Zach Churchill is attempting to evade blame by saying he inherited the situation, pointing to former Liberal Leaders Stephen McNeil and Iain Rankin, despite the Party failing to cooperate with the investigation under his leadership.

“Voters cannot have confidence in a party that has shown that Liberals will protect Liberals when it comes to theft,” said Nolan.

The PC Caucus looks forward to a Public Accounts Committee meeting on this matter.
